COVID-19 Crisis and Distance Learning

AMS has accomplished many new activities and innovations to keep pace with the situation the world is going through during the emerging Corona crisis, to ensure the continuity of education, and to discuss possible ways to facilitate the progress of the educational process from a distance. Weekly meeting with faculty teaching staff

AMS pays great attention to its educational system, and harnesses all the capabilities necessary to provide a high-level educational environment for students, and in light of the Covid-19 pandemic, AMS is one of the first faculties in developing and expanding the coverage of the existing distance learning system, in order to ensure that students receive the scheduled study activities. Moreover, The faculty ensures the safety of its students by continuing the educational process without interruption, which is considered its top priority.

Remote seminars were activated using the program (Google hangout meeting) where seminar links are posted on MOODLE. These meetings allow remote communication between students and faculty members in the presence of a representative from the Quality Assurance Office and a representative from the Student Affairs Office to take charge of responding to complaints and listen to students\’ opinions and suggestions.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=\”1/2\”][vc_column_text]

Scientific Reports Discussion Sessions

AMS has organized oral discussion sessions for the scientific reports for the second year students (149 students) for four consecutive days. Discussions took place this academic year 2020 between the students and the examining committee using the university\’s MOODLE system through the application of (Hangout Meet).

Online exams

Due to what the whole world is going through regarding the spread of the new Covid-19 and the need to emerge to distance education, remote teaching was adopted by AMS after researching the strategies that should be followed during such circumstances as well as conducting trials with students  to train them on how to use the exams software. Exams are conducted in a way that ensures following the international standards during the development of the exam, which ensures the reliability of the examiner\’s evaluation.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=\”1/4\”][vc_gallery interval=\”3\” images=\”393216,393218,393215,393217\” img_size=\”full\”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=\”1/2\”][vc_column_text]

Performing discussion sessions remotely

AMS has studied all aspects related to conducting remote sessions, and has done many trials to study the possibility of adopting remote teaching during the crises of COVID-19. After finishing the research part on the strategies that should be followed during online teaching, a group of students were chosen to carry on an actual remote PBL session to identify the obstacles and requirements that should be followed during the sessions.

The strengths and weaknesses of the session were identified. Subsequently, the faculty started to train the academic tutors on how to create a remote session as well as provide tutors with the technical support needed to carry such sessions.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=\”1/2\”][vc_column_text]

Activating academic advising tasks

A mission known as (Academic Advising) was adopted during this precautionary period. The aim of this mission is to motivate, guide and follow up the student with all matters related to their studies. These included recording the lectures by faculty members via (PowerPoint); activating the Telegram channel to upload lectures, uploading lectures on MOODEL, and preparing and uploading virtual laboratories materials.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][/vc_section]
