Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS)

Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS) program at the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences (AMS), at the Libyan International Medical University (LIMU) is a health profession that prepares graduates with the ability to perform and interpret laboratory tests necessary for the identification and diagnosis of the disease. Graduates from the Clinical Laboratory Sciences program will obtain a bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory sciences, and be able to execute the tests required in the laboratory, confirm the quality of the results and understand the significance of the laboratory tests. This program is deliberated according to the British institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) standards. Upon applying to this program, students will experience an environment of enthusiasm, knowledge, research and laboratory management skills and upon meeting all requirements, graduates will be able to begin practicing their work directly as a clinical laboratory specialist

Admission Requirements

The student must have a high school diploma or its equivalent recognized and approved by the authorities. Additionally, pre-requisites for this course are given in the first year with other AMS students.  

 The student must be able to continue studying in his major. If the applicant is a non-Libyan, the procedures for his residency in Libya during his study period must be in accordance with the applicable laws, laws and regulations. The student must pay fees and study expenses in accordance with the rules and regulations established at the university. If the student applying to study meets all of the previous conditions, a personal interview will be conducted and based on its outcome, the student’s acceptance or rejection is determined. Faculties, according to their bylaws, may also conduct entrance examinations for applicants to the faculty.

Study Plan

The study plan of the Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS) program at the Libyan International Medical University (LIMU), is clearly outlined with daily lectures by highly qualified professors followed by practical hands on training sessions in fully equipped laboratories on campus or/and field visits to local governmental and private hospitals, medical centers and laboratories. It also includes biweekly seminars prepared by students in different disciplines of their study. Furthermore, weekly quizzes and exams are applied with regard to the subjects studied

Job Opportunities

Hospitals and medical laboratories: where the specialist works in various laboratory departments such as Chemistry, Pathology, Blood and its diseases and others. Also, in laboratory quality control, where graduates are able to work in research centers where the specialist studies a specific research, takes the appropriate samples, examines them, and records the results of the research

Duration of Study and Fees 

The program comprises four years including the internship (hospital or LIMU teaching laboratory based training), after which the degree of B.Sc. in Clinical Laboratory Sciences is awarded to successful candidates. The fees as inquired by the registration office.

• They have the talent to design, implement and evaluate new methods in various medical laboratories.

• They have experience in performing and quality control routine and specialized medical laboratory procedures and understand the theoretical foundations of these procedures.

• They have the ability to identify and solve problems, are familiar with the principles of quality and safety assurance, are familiar with laboratory regulations, information and management systems, and have the ability to design research and educational methodology.

• They have the ability to work in a team or independently and implement critical thinking skills in solving problems in various areas of diagnostic laboratories.

• They have the ability to deal professionally with colleagues, accept criticism, and develop themselves.
